$13,500,000 Recovered For Amputee

Before our firm tried our first case in Tazewell county in 2011, the largest verdict in the county was $960,000. Gill Ports, Ltd. and Matt Ports represented a young man who lost his leg in an industrial accident at Central Illinois Truss in Deer Creek.

Before trial, the defendant, MiTek Industries, offered $4,000,000 to settle. The offer was declined. The jury awarded our client every dollar that we requested in closing argument, more than $13,500,000. MiTek appealed the case all the way to the Illinois Supreme Court, but our client ultimately prevailed. The entire judgment plus interest was collected.

$6,000,000 Recovered For Deaths of Two Pekin Workers

In January 2018, Matt Ports negotiated $3 million settlements for the families of two downstate Illinois workers who were killed while working in a railroad car at Agridyne, LLC’s livestock feed facility in Pekin. The two men, ages 37 and 29, were exposed to toxic gas while attempting to clean the rail car and died of closed space asphyxia.

Following their deaths, Gill Ports, Ltd. filed suit against Agridyne in Tazewell County Circuit Court for failure to provide a safe working environment.  Settlements were reached between the parties prior to trial. $5,000,000 Recovered In Deadly Medical Malpractice Case

We tried our first Tazewell County medical malpractice case in 2016. Before then, few malpractice cases had been won there and the damage amounts were in the five to six figure range.

In our 2016 trial, Gill Ports, Ltd. and Matt Ports represented the estate of a woman who hemorrhaged to death after a hysterectomy at Methodist Medical Center. Before trial, the defense offered $2,000,000 but that was declined. The jury found for our client against the anesthesiologist, the gynecologist and Methodist Medical Center, awarding more than $5,008,000. Shortly after trial, the defendants settled for $5,000,000.
