Breaking New Ground In Personal Injury And Medical Malpractice Recoveries
Even though Pfaff, Gill & Ports, Ltd. is based in Chicago, our lawyers have actively practiced in Peoria and Tazewell counties for three decades. We are grateful to have many friends and colleagues there who have referred clients to us. We are proud to work hard on behalf of injured people in Central Illinois.
We are currently representing clients who suffered very serious injuries in Peoria and Tazewell counties. These are some of our past results in Peoria and Tazewell counties:
$13,500,000 Recovered For Amputee.
Before our firm tried our first case in Tazewell county in 2011, the largest verdict in the county was $960,000. Bruce Pfaff and Matt Ports represented a young man who lost his leg in an industrial accident at Central Illinois Truss in Deer Creek.
Before trial, the defendant, MiTek Industries, offered $4,000,000 to settle. The offer was declined. The jury awarded our client every dollar that we requested in closing argument, more than $13,500,000. MiTek appealed the case all the way to the Illinois Supreme Court, but our client ultimately prevailed. The entire judgment plus interest was collected.
$6,000,000 Recovered For Deaths of Two Pekin Workers.
In January 2018, Matt Ports negotiated $3 million settlements for the families of two downstate Illinois workers who were killed while working in a railroad car at Agridyne, LLC’s livestock feed facility in Pekin. The two men, ages 37 and 29, were exposed to toxic gas while attempting to clean the rail car and died of closed space asphyxia.
Following their deaths, Pfaff, Gill & Ports, Ltd. filed suit against Agridyne in Tazewell County Circuit Court for failure to provide a safe working environment. Settlements were reached between the parties prior to trial. Each $3 million settlement represents the second highest Tazewell County wrongful death award to date. Read more…
$5,000,000 Recovered In Deadly Medical Malpractice Case.
We tried our first Tazewell County medical malpractice case in 2016. Before then, few malpractice cases had been won there and the damage amounts were in the five- to six-figure range.
In our 2016 trial, Bruce Pfaff and Matt Ports represented the estate of a woman who hemorrhaged to death after a hysterectomy at Methodist Medical Center. Before trial, the defense offered $2,000,000 but that was declined. The jury found for our client against the anesthesiologist, the gynecologist and Methodist Medical Center, awarding more than $5,008,000. Shortly after trial, the defendants settled for $5,000,000.

PEACE OF MIND
I had the privilege of having Bruce Pfaff and Pfaff, Gill, & Ports, Ltd., represent my family in a medical malpractice wrongful death law suit for my husband. When I first met Bruce, his demeanor was very calm, professional, assuring and determined to get to the truth. Bruce was diligent in investigating every aspect of the case, uncovering every detail, and letting the facts speak for themselves. He went above and beyond his duties to obtain the best expert witnesses that were needed for the complexity of the case. – J.G.
