Illinois patients may suffer regarding any failure to diagnose

On Behalf of | Oct 26, 2016 | Failure To Diagnose |

It is common for individuals to seek medical attention when they feel that something may be wrong with their health. They often rely on medical professionals to determine what the issue might be and subsequently treat it, as necessary. However, failure to diagnose a problem could lead to Illinois residents facing additional negative effects.

One woman in another state suffered from such a situation. Reports indicated that she had gone to see a doctor due to experiencing pain in her leg. The doctor did not properly diagnose a blood clot in the woman’s leg, and as a result, it was left untreated. The woman later went to an emergency room when the pain became worse, but again, doctors did not diagnose the issue.

Because the clot was not addressed, the woman’s leg had to be amputated. Due to this outcome, she filed medical malpractice claims against the doctors and hospitals involved. One claim had been previously settled, but it was recently reported that another claim resulted in the woman being awarded $25 million. The ruling came after the doctor and hospital were found negligent in their treatment of the woman.

As this case shows, the failure to diagnose a medical problem could lead to severe outcomes. If Illinois residents have suffered due to medical negligence, they may wish to consider filing civil claims of their own. Discussing their legal options with experienced attorneys may help interested individuals find out how they may be able to move forward with seeking compensation for allowable damages.
