Doctor accused of causing woman to suffer spinal cord injuries

Spinal cord injuries can alter a person’s life forever; they can sometimes cause a person to become paralyzed or to suffer other serious disabilities. One of the things that sometimes leads to a person suffering a disabling spinal cord injury is when a doctor makes a mistake when operating near a person’s spinal cord. If a person has suffered a spine injury in a surgical procedure and suspects that the injury was caused by a surgical error, they should consider talking with an attorney about what their rights and options are. Such individuals may be entitled to compensation for the impacts their spinal cord injury has had on them.

A medical malpractice case has recently arisen in Illinois involving a surgery and spinal cord injuries.

The case centers on a back surgery a woman says she underwent on Feb. 23, 2012. The surgery was aimed at replacing a medical device the woman had in her back. The device in question was a dorsal column stimulator, a device used for chronic pain relief.

The woman has accused the doctor who performed this device-replacement surgery of negligence. According to her, the doctor’s conduct during this surgery resulted in her spinal cord getting injured. She says that this caused her to become disabled, to incur medical expenses, to lose her normal life and to be subjected to pain and suffering.

According to the Madison-St. Clair Record article which reported this story, the woman is suing the doctor in relation to this alleged surgical negligence.
