Woman sues for surgical errors and kidney damage

On Behalf of | Feb 12, 2015 | Surgical Errors |

A woman was injured after she underwent surgery.  Illinois blog readers may be interested in reading about how surgical errors led this woman to file a lawsuit against her doctors. The amount the woman is seeking was not disclosed.

Back in 2010, the woman underwent a hysterectomy. The woman claims that the doctor who performed the surgery left a surgical clip inside of her body which should not have been left there. Due to this mistake, she had long-term consequences to her health. She found out about this after she and her husband visited a urologist who showed her an image of the surgical clip.

An emergency surgery was performed immediately to correct the mistake. The woman is suing multiple doctors, including one whom she complained to about health issues for months. According to the lawsuit, her kidney function will never be normal again due to the surgical clip and delayed diagnosis. She will also have to undergo dialysis or obtain a kidney transplant in the future.

Surgical errors can result in patients needing additional medical care and/or corrective surgeries.  Not only is this costly, but patients often endure enormous amounts of pain and suffering and life-long consequences. The woman in this case could be awarded the damages she is seeking if evidence demonstrates that the surgeon or other doctors were negligent in a way that caused or contributed to her injuries. Illinois patients who are in similar situations retain the right to pursue medical malpractice claims to seek recovery of financial damages.
